The outskirts of LA have always brought us great bands. Too many to name. But we have found another band to ad to that ever growing and elite group. Rufio hails from the suburban community called Rancho Cucamonga. These 4 young guys got together originally from not having anything better to do then hang out and play some music. Pretty soon, as Bass player Jon puts it "We were writing legit songs! They had verses, choruses, catchy melodies, everything. I was pretty blown away!" After a few months, they went to a local studio and recorded 5 songs in a day and then proceeded to put them up on MP3.com and giving burnt CDs out to friends. Then they were getting calls to play shows and getting orders from the Internet from all over. "We don't really know what's going on," states Jon "all of a sudden, people kept on downloading the songs, people kept on writing us, people kept on calling us to book shows. It just kinda happened." Jon also stated "That's not to say we didn't work hard, we did. Plus a factor to us getting a good response is that we have a cute Asian guy (Clark) that people like to see naked"After about 6 months of playing local shows and just having fun, the big wigs at a new label called THE MILITA GROUP contacted them about wanting to put out a record. "We have known Chad for awhile. He used to book good bands like Slick Shoes and other bands. We actually would bug him all the time about booking us and getting us on bigger shows. He never did anything. Bastard. Anyways, we also knew Rory from him talking to us at shows and having the same friends and stuff. Both really great guys. Rory contacted us back in December 2000 and it just seemed like a good time to do it, so we did it."So now with a new record under their belt, selling thousands of copies within a few weeks, has the band changed at all? "No, I don't think so - we still don't get any." |
