Less than jake – gnv fla

LTJ opted to self-release their brandnew LP “GNV FLA” on their very own record label “Sleep It Off” records. LTJ, who was signed to Warner records recently opted to found a new label, just to release their very own stuff there and probably to release out a couple of underground bands. LTJ started out about 16 years ago in Gainsville, Florida, which is their hometown and at the same time the title of their newest record. The band released tons of material, alike 7”-inches, DVD´s, EP´s and at least about ten studio albums. “GNV FLA” is their latest record and the eleventh studio album. The record contains fourteen slamming tracks in the well known Less Than Jake manner, which means high-voltage Punkrock tunes, paired with great vocals and Ska music. The listener gets awaited with super-slamming drums, great vocals – sung by Chris Demakes, who is also the head of the band since the early beginnings of LTJ. On “GNV FLA” the band shows it full talent and skills. The new release proof, that they are able to play great Pop music with horns; but they are also able to play super-fast punkrock tunes, with stunning melodies and great vocals on. These guys made experiences on the road and in the studios over the years. They started out on AsianMan records, fallowed by Capitol, Smallman and FatWreck. They recently belonged to the Warner/Sire records rooster. Less Than Jake is well known for its funny lyrics and its humor. “GNV FLA” is pretty much affected by good mood and positive vibes. Unfortunately I need to admit, that on one hand Less Than Jake might belong to the very best Ska/Pop bands out there; but I honestly have to say, that I expected more to come on their new record. The songs are good but I am missing the sing-a-long factor, that I once found on their 95`release “Pezcore” and even on their 2006 release “In with the crowd”. The songs from “GNV FLA” got recorded at Atlas Studios in Chicago, together with Matt Allison, who also worked with bands alike Rise Against or Alkaline Trio. Indeed LTJ have recorded a solid record with soaring vocals and great melodies on. But honestly I need to admit, that I am missing the feeling, that I had on the last few releases.
