Deichbrand Festival 2009
Location: Cuxhaven, Germany
Lots of rain, mudd and happy people!
First band I saw were „P:lot“ from Germany. Really nice alternative music with german lyrics, listen to it on their myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/meinnameist
After their show everyone went over to the fire stage on the left side of the area. A mystic, almost churchlike sound got the attention of the crowd. „Emil Bulls“ from Bavaria, Germany entered the stage. Those 5 guys were extremely enegetic, unfortunately the voice of vocalist Christoph Von Freydorf isn't very recognizable but their performance was nice to watch and pretty entertaining.
Afterwards everyone went back to the water stage to see „Dúné“ from Denmark. I saw them a few times ago and was very excited to listen to some of their new songs. The outfits were beautiful as always, even though the sequined jacket of frontman and singer Mattias seemed quite a bit Michael-Jacksonish.
Their interaction with the crowd was very good. Dúné is a band that loves to be on stage and you can tell it every minute you watch them. There are times when keyboarder player Cecilie just sits down and drinks a beer or Ole climbs up the stage. They are amazing entertainers as well as musicians and if you get the chance to see them (no matter if at a festival or at a headlining concert), you should definitely take the opportunity. They played lots of songs of their album „We are in there you are out here“ as well as the singles „heat“ and „victim of the city“ of their upcoming album „enter metropolis“. (They are coming to Germany again in october! Check out the dates on their myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/dunesite)
On Sunday afternoon „Ignite“ from California entered the fire stage. Soon there was a mosh pit and everyone was dancing along. They played „Sunday, Bloody Sunday“ as well as lots of their hits. I really enjoyed watching them because of their great energy.
Mando Diao started their set on time on 11 pm. It seemed that lots of the people had just come because of them. They played all their hits, including „Dance with somebody“, „Gloria“ and „Down in the past“. A very special moment was „Ocrasy“, a very slow, quiet but at the same time powerfull song and one of my personal favourites. Another great thing was that the rain had stopped but just when Mando Diao finished their set, the rain started again like there's no tomorrow.
Most people didn't care and kept dancing in the mudd.
In conclusion, it was a great festival, with many great people. There were about 10.000 people which is a good amount, but not too many so you always had a chance to get close to the stage and have a good view. The people seemed calm and I didn't saw any fights or aggressions. The only negativ thing was the organisation, which wasn't that great as well as cold showers.
