Former Rx-Bandits member Rich Balling brought together this Experimental-Rock band, that is around since 2004. The band members in The Sound Of Animals Fighting are from across the whole USA and everyone in the band has a different animal-name; like The Walrus, The Nightinggale, The Skunk and The Lynx. These are pretty strange facts I think. Friends and musicians often stopped by to colaborate with the band. In 2004 Balling and the band started out on Equal Vision records - a label, that is very open minded for different music directions. Me never liked their music, because it was so weird and so strange without any markable pattern for me to find out. In 2008 the band is back with a new release, called "The Ocean And The Sun". Surprisingly I found out that Anthony Green (review: click) has the position of the Skunk, which means he doing the lead vocals. I really like Anthony Green, wheter he sung in Saosin or in Circa Survive or for his own solo project. This guy has an amazing voice. Not only Anthony Green is singing. Rich Balling and Matt Embree (ex-Rx-Bandits) often contribute their voices. On one hand TSOAF deliver a really good album with weird, hectic and confusing sound pattern but also with beautiful and stunning melodies. "The Ocean And The Sun" is really a knock-out of beautiful melodies and expert knowledge of good music. The most outstanding track is not really simple to figure out, but I can advise you to give a special listen to track number six, called "Cellophane". The track starts so beautiful and silent but it explodes after 3:21 of running time. The guys totally freak out until the moment the song becomes to hectic and suddenly there is silence. Anthony screams "Hey!" and the song starts again in the same freaked-out manner. To me this is not only great music, this is art! I never payed attention to the fact, that Balling and Embree from Rx-Bandits are in the band. I promise you that you will directly recognize that, from the moment on you get informed over that. Even Craig Owens [review: here] from Cinematic Sunrise/ Chiodos and many different Rx-Bandits members plus several other musicians helped out on instruments and vocals. This album gives you a blast and I can imagine getting 50 someday and totally freaking out when I listen to this album, while my kids are watching me and thinking that I am an idiot. If you like Portugal! The Man, Converge, Saosin and Letters Organize then you should´t hesitate to buy this record.
