The Hives The black and white album
Universal Records . 11/13/2007 . written by Oliver
The Hives have released a brandnew album, called "The black and white album". Well, let me tell you something about the bands history first: The swedish band started their career back in 1996, when Skatepunk was huge in Europe. Back in the days, they released their great EP "Oh Lord! When? How? on Sidekick records, that was a sublabel of Burning Heart in the past. The EP shows five young guys wearing caps and Freshjive shirts. Haha, funny to see how the band has changed their music and their style over the years. Their very first EP was already a pretty Rock influenced record, with funny lyrics and exciting vocals. Yeah, The Hives were good back in the days. In 2000 the band started their amazing career: They released a killer their killer album "Veni Vidi Vicious", that gave us all a blast. The album gained so much attention and every club in Europe played their amazing Rock tunes. Yeah, that were great times. In the meantime the band has released some great new releases. Now, in 2007, the band released their brandnew record, called "The Black and white abum". I haven´t listen to much to The Hives in the past years. But now I have their new record at home and I need to admit, that "The black and white parade" is a killer release! I can figure out some drastic changed in comparison to their foregoer records. „Howlin'“Pelle Almqvist (vocals) sounds more mature and more rawer than ever before. The new record sound pretty much rawer than ever before. The more I listen to the album, the more often I feel reminded to bands like Turbonegro, Rocket From The Crypt, Morrissey, The Clash, 59 Times The Pain, Randy, ACDC. To make it short here, in general I would say, that the band got affected by numerous bands from the 70´s. The new album contains 14 slamming Rock tracks, that include bombastic basslines, great lyrics and vocals, hard edged guitars and amazing refrains. I really like the new record, that has so much true soul and true spirit. The Hives are still able to affect the listener with amazing refrains. I can totally assure you, that the new record has enough potential to make even your worst day to the very best day, you ever had. I can not make it clear enough how much power their new record has. This record is highly recommened on P76.
