The Cab - Whisper War
Fueled By Ramen/FBR Records . release date: 04-29-08 . written by Oliver
What do all these Disco-punk–bands like Danger Radio, The Cab and The Higher have in common? They all combine Punk with a latino elements and they insert some Michael Jackson and some Justin Timberlake influences. It seems as if the concept really works out, because these bands are pretty succsessful with what they´re doing. Seattle´s quartett The Cab is the latest signing on Decaydance/FBR records. American multi-platinum music producer Matt Squire (Thrice, The Used, Forever The Sickest Kids...) and Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy made a real good job on the record. On The Cab´s debut CD “Whisper War” you find twelve great, highly melodic Pop-Punk tunes. I like the shouting back-up-vocals, the dominant piano and the poetry lyrics on the record. Bandleader Ben Gibbard has also a very clear and good voice. It might be interesting to mention, that someone has to fill the gab, since Panic At The Disco has turned their back from Techno-Dixie-Disco-Punk to Beatles influenced Rock music. On Whisper War you find a lot of elements, that we once found in Panic ATD as well. Check out “High Hopes In Velvet Ropes”, which reminds me a lot to Panic. To me The Cab have released a flawless Rock album with great melodies on. Today Disco-Punk is pretty trendy, so I guess the band will have a great future.
