The Academy Is - Santi
Warner/ Fueled By Ramen Records . 04/03/2007
The five piece from Hoffman Estates, Illinois, Chicago is around for five years now. Band leader William Becket and Michael Carden (guitar) met in 2002. They formed TAI in 2003, when Adam T. Siska, Adrian LaTrace Jr Mike DelPrincipe joined the band as additional musicians. The band released their self titled debut EP “The Academy” under the bands original name: The Academy. Just to avoid law suit the band called themselves The Academy Is. Fueled By Ramen immediately signed the band when Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy told them to see them play live. Fueled By Ramen signed them directly and released The Academy Is debut CD “Almost Here” under the help of star producer James Paul Wisner on February 8th, 2005. In 2006 the band began writing new songs for their Warner records debut Santi. Butch Walker, who recorded with The Donnas, Lit, All American Rejects,Fall Out Boy, Pete Yorn and others, really did a good production job on this record. When The Academy Is released their debut on FBR in 2005 they reminded me a lot to Fall Out Boy. In 2007 they sound totally different – much sharper and much more serious. Me personally dislike the step the band has made. I was more into the songs, that I found on the foregoer record. “Santi” has turned out pretty not really interesting. I am not into the melodies and I can not even find a single tune, that I can relate on or sing-a-long to.
