Telekom Street Gigs presented Jamie Cullum
For the first time the Telekom Street Gigs (formely known as T-Mobile Street Gigs) took place in Bremen. Sadly Paramore, who were announced to play the Street Gig had to cancel but the organisators did find a great alternative: Jamie Cullum.
The main concept about Telekom Street Gigs is to give people the opportunity to see their favourite artist at places they've never played before. For example Simple Plan played at a cornfield and the audience had to find their way through a labyrinth to get to the stage. The Canadian rockers from Billy Talent played at a junk yard in Cologne. And those weren't all, in the past 3 years 22 Street Gigs have been organized, always a good mix between German and international artists. Just to name a few: Freundeskreis, Maximo Park, Bloc Party, Deichkind, Razorlight and many more. Every concert is unique and the tickets can not be bought, the only way to get in is to win tickets which makes it even more exclusive.
In Bremen the BSAG central factory was chosen. A place where busses of the public transport get repaired was transformed into a wonderful concert location. A huge hall with lots of busses and in the middle of it all Jamie's stage. Interviews with bands who already played the Street Gigs were beamed onto the busses. Two bars left nothing to be desired. The prices for drinks were very low and you could even buy some snacks, like sandwiches or pretzels.
On schedule the concert started at 7.45 pm. After a short welcome support Enno Bunger entered the stage. Together with his bands he played piano-driven songs with german lyrics and the audience seemed to enjoy it. After 45 minutes the show was over. While the stage hands prepared everything for Jamie Cullum the organisators gave away three Nokia cellphones which was very nice to bridge the gap between the two artists.
Jamie Cullum entered the stage at 9 pm and started with the coverversion of Rihanna's hit "Please don't stop the music". The audience was with him from the first minute. 30 year old Cullum played a good mixture of newer songs of his album "The Pursuit" like "I'm all over it" and "Wheels" as well as older songs of his record "Catching Tales". He also included a medley of the songs "Singing in the rain" which lead over to Rihanna's "Umbrella". Between the songs Cullum, who seemed to be in very good spirits, enthused the audience with some german sentences. He also stated, that he's very happy that he and his bandmates were able to make it, which wasn't sure because of the dust cloud. Jamie Cullum knows how to handle an audience, lot's of participation by singing and clapping along proved that the people enjoyed the evening. After about an hour Cullum and his band left the stage but came back to play an encore. When leaving the building people smiled everywhere and everyone seemed to be very happy and satisfied.
In conclusion it was a great Telekom Street Gig that had a very special feeling to it because of the extraordinary location. The organisation was very good, there were no long waiting lines to get in and public tansport was only two minutes walk away so the location was very easy to reach.
