Second Hand Serenade A twist in my story

Glassnote/East-West Records . release date: 02/19/2008 . written by Oliver

SecondHandSerenadeI clearly remember how stocked I was, when Dashboard Confessional released it´s greatest masterpieces, like “The Places You have come to fear the most” (Vagrant 2001) or the “So Impossible” EP (Vagrant 2001). Those releases contained so much beauty, so much true feelings and so much emotion. Chris Carabba and his band never released anything good like that again until today. In 2007 I got shocked, because I received a new artist, called “Second Hand Serenade”. Who is behind SeHaSa, I was asking and I found out, that a young artist with an accoustic guitar is behind SeHaSe. John Veseky is a young, talented artist, whose debut CD Awake (Glassnote/East-West 2007) gained a lot of attention. What is so particular about John, you may ask. I will tell you: It sounds as if someone has taken the very best songs from “The Places You Have Come...” and “So Impossible” and sung them again. John has almost the same, beautiful and emotional voice, like Chris Carabba has. If you close your eyes, and compare the voices, you can not differ who is John and who is Chris. Do you remember, when Chris said, the he want´s to start working with a full band? To me, all the new DC songs have turned out ok, but they are not as good as they have turned out 2001. John Vesely had the same idea: He wanted to start singing with a full band now. I was not very amused about that decision, because I thought, that John will make the same mistakes, that Chris Carabba has made. But what the hell has happen here? John has released now his second album, called “Twist in my story” on Glassnote/East-West records and it has turned out so wonderful, so amazing and so charming at least. He has re-recorded two songs from his foregoer record: “Maybe” and “Your call”. These songs sound so damn fantastic, with drums, violin and piano. I cannot describe how lucky I am about the new record. John has recorded eleven wonderful songs. Clearly, they all deal with the theme of love. It is so beautiful to listen to those dreamy, romantic and heart breaking songs. One of the most outstanding tracks is called “Stranger”. John starts softly with beautiful and fragile voice, while there is a soft piano and guitar in the back. The track gets stronger, when the drums start to set in. The strongest songs are called “Your Call” – a re-recorded song from the foregoer album “Awake”. John has support from a female singer and a choir in the back. The title track "A twist in my story" even contains some more energy, because there is an orchestra to find in the back. You won´t believe how loud and how much energy an orchestra can cause. The combination of slamming drums, piano, violin and choir is just breathtaking. I am so shocked, how much talent John proofes here. The whole album has turned out so well, yeah, so damn good, that I only can recommend it here very strongly. Don´t hesitate to buy this record, if you like old Dashboard Confessional releases.
