Search The City - A fire so big the heavens can see it

Before I started writing a review about Search The City´s very first Toothandnail release A Fire So Big The Heavens Can See It, I read a few opinions about their album on the internet. It seems as if all the critiques - including me - have the same opinion: This band is doing a real great job. Just to give you an idea what this Toothandnail band sounds like, I would like to refer on Spitalfied, New Found Glory and Acceptance, although I need to admit that Search The City plays more powerful music in comparison to the listed bands. The Detroit, MI band recorded their new record with James Paul Wisner, who also produced a lot of great bands alike Underoath, Further Seems Forever, As Friends Rust , Paramore and tons of others. James Paul, who worked with so many bands, once again made a fantastic job. The dreamily record is so beautiful and romantic on one hand, but it still has enough sharpe and strenght to be called Powerpop record. The band members pretty much got infected by hardcore music. Josh Frost (vocals) explains: "We're more influenced by hardcore music than anything else". On "Bigger Scars Make Better Stories" you can clearly find out what he means: The drums on that sound a very strong and those hard edged guitars sound just impressive to me. But the most outstanding song is called Clocks And Timepieces. To me the track and even Frost´s voice remind me a lot to Emery´s latest release "I´m only a man" (Toothandnail 2007). Just listen to those spinning drums and those super hard guitars. A Fire So Big The Heavens contains ten amazing Emo-Rock/ Powerpunk tracks, pretty much affected by methaphoric song writing, personal experiences and intimate feelings. There is currently no better band on Toothandnail records to find.
