Pompeii - Nothing happens for a reason

Pompeii formed in 2004 in Texas, Austin. The band comprises of five people: Dean Stafforf plays rhythm guitar and does lead vocals, Rob Davidson plays on drums, Erik Johnson plays lead guitar and Colin Butler plays bass. The five peace band released a stunning debut called "Assembly" in 2006. The record received a pretty good critique. Now the band present their newest effort, called "Nothing Happens For A Reason". The record consits 11 well performed emotional Rock tracks. I remember when Jimmy Eat World released their great album "Clarity" in 1999. That was the time when The Get Up Kids released their stunning work "Something to write home about" and it was around that time when As Friends Rust, Saves The Day, Sunny Day Real Estate and others lead the "music scene". To me "Nothing happens for a reason" would fit so well into those past days. Pompeii's music is so much "Emo" and so nostalgic and at least so beautiful, that it is hard to find any good artists today that might challenge them yet. I can only think of the major label band Lydia [review: here], whom's music sounds similiar to Pompeii. But currently there are not many bands around that could challenge Pompeii. I will explain you now, what makes Pompeii so different, so unique and so great at all: First up they combine bitter sweet melodies with pure emotion. I like the beautiful guitar work that tends somewhere between Jimmy Eat World and The Cure. I also love the cello that is to find on so many tracks. The cello creates a pretty sad and sentimental atmosphere. I read that the band got influenced trough countless bands alike Explosions In The Sky, Elliott Smith and Mogwai. Their beautiful and calming music might have an depressive effect on the listener - especially now in autumn and winter time. To me Pompeii belongs to the very best artists ever on Eyeball record. Their music is totally destined for fans of Logh, Elliott Smith, Joey Cape, The Get Up Kids and Jimmy Eat World.
