Plain White T´s - Big Bad World

Hollywood Records . 09/23/2008 . written by Oliver . genre: Pop Punk

PlainWhiteTsThe Plain White T´s is a famous Pop Rock act from Chicago, who started their career in 2000. First they begun to release their music on their own but in 2002 they got signed to independent label Fearless Records. Drummer De'Mar Hamilton was playing back at that time in his sideproject Knockout - a skatepunk band, that was also signed to Fearless records. The band refered on NOFX, Blink-182, The Ataris, Strung Out and Pulley on their Myspace profile. The Plain White T´s never were a fast band. They always played beautiful mid-tempo Rock songs. Their debut on Fearless records (Stop, 2002) became a well noticed album that many critiques showed a strong interest in. After having an international sucsess in 2007 trough the release of their hit-single "Hey There Delilah" (review: here) the band got often featured on media stations across the land. I personally hate the song, because it made me sick to see, that PWT's had already so many good songs out and suddenly every idiot knew about their "worst" song. Anyway, Tom explained in our interview with the band (interview: click) the backround of the song and confirmed, that he still loves the song very much. In 2008 the PWT's their second major label effort, called "Big Bad World". Their music changed drastically in comparison to their foregoer releases. Me personally feel reminded to the good tunes of the 60's and 70's when great artists like Neal Diamond and The Beach Boys delivered their very own interpretation of Rock music. "Big Bad World" contains 10 wonderful Rock songs. Some are kept in a mid-tempo manner, others have turned out very silent and emotional. I really love the diversity the record shows. The most outstanding track is called "Sunlight". This great tune reminds me so well to the music from the 70's. I also the love the lyrics on the new record. Tom sings on "Serious Mistake": "I am not a churchgoing man, but I am desperate need for forgiveness...I've made a serious mistake, I hope it's not to late, to fix the heart that I am breaking". Their newest effort shows the band from a more diverse and interesting side. I've always loved their releases, but I need to admit that they have made a huge step forward as serious musicians.
