Ex-Hopeless-records artist Melee got snapped up by Warner records in 2006. The band who already had out a couple of releases on Hopeless records released Devils And Angels already last year in the states trough Warner records. Warner showed a strong interst in the band as they found out that Melee sold over 15000 records trough indie label Hopeless records. “Devils And Angels” appeared in Europe on 07/28/.08. The cover artwork even got redesigned for the European market. Indeed I was never a fan of lead singer Chris Cron and his band. Their boring releases on Hopeless records did not really convinced me a lot; honestly I disliked the band pretty much. But on their new record the band shows it´s full potential and I have to admit, that I really love the record. To me it sounds as if The Rocket Summer, Marron 5 and Something Cooperate teamed up to record just their very best tracks. Melee are no newbies to the music scene. They played the Warped Tour and entered the stage for years with many well known bands. And so they have put in all their experiences as musicians in that new CD. Grammy Award nominee Howard Benson, who worked with Hoobastank, My Chemical Romance and The All American Rejects lay hands on this release. The lyrics, which are not too deep concentrate on very different themes, like “Rhythm of the rain”, that got written after Hurricane Katrina or “Biggest Mistake”, which is dedicated to Cron´s ex-girlfriend. Melee has made a perfect album with stunning powerpop/ piano-rock-driven tracks on. This is just an awesome release with bouncy party tracks and wonderful ballards on.
