Mae - Singularity
Capitol records . 08/14/07 . written by Oliver
Mae
has released two great albums on Toothandnail records, before
they got signed to Capitol records. Their newest album is called "Singularity".
The band has worked with all-star-producer Howard Benson,
who also worked with Saosin, My Chemical Romance, All-American-Rejects,
just to name a few here. Singularity shows a lot of different styles:
On one hand you find flawless radio Pop songs, on the other hand you
find bittersweet ballards, like "Just let go". The lyrics most often do
reflect romantic themes, like love. Honestly I have to admit, that
"Singularity" has turned out to be the worst record by the band. I
am only into two songs ("Crazy 8´s","Release Me"). These songs really
remind me a lot to the classic foregoer releases, which came out on
Toothandnail records. Those releases were known for having beautiful
Emo/Rock songs on, with stunning and beautiful melodies on. The new
record is also good, but I dislike the overwhelming insert of the synthesizer
in the back. The syntheziser is really dominating the songs and this
is annoying, in my opinion. They could also call themselves "Ozma" or "Weezer",
because they sound so similar now. I wish they would omit the synteziser
parts and then the record would have turned out better.
