Message from It Dies Today

Punk76: Starting up with a typical question: where does your band name come from and what's the meaning of it?

Chris: I found the bandname when I was 16 or 17 years old. I was surfing in the internet, I was on AOL messanger and some kid had the screenname "It Dies Today" so I asked if it was his band and he said no and then I was like "okay, may I use it for my band?" and he was like "sure, go ahead". And it turned out to be a songtitle of a song by an american band called "Adamantium" and that's where it came from. It's just a stupid name, we were young..

Punk76: But you stuck to it and never thought about changing it?

Chris: Yeah, we stuck to it. And now we can't change it, it's too late.

Punk76: You've played shows with so many great bands like Alexisonfire or Bleeding Through, which band was your favourite to be on tour with?

Chris: Right now, "Kittie" is one of our favourite bands to be on tour with. Not only because they're in the room... (smiles).

Jason: We toured with them in 2007 and it was a really great tour and they're great girls to hang around with. Actually they're more like dudes, like guy-friends.

Chris: Machine Head was very cool to tour with.

Mike: And Papa Roach.

Chris&Jason: Yeah, Papa Roach was very cool.

Punk76: Let's talk about your recent record "Lividity", did it come out exactly how you wanted it to be?

Jason: Mike probably wants to answer this question because he produced the record.

Mike: I think what we accomplished with this record is an honest record. Something that wasn't overproduced like our last two albums and I think it totally came out how we wanted it to be.

Punk76: How long have you worked on this record?

Chris: About a year or so.

Mike: I think the total time of writing and recording was about 4 months but spread out to a year and a half.

Punk76: Which of your songs is the most fun to play live?

Jason: I have the most fun playing "Sacred Heart".

Chris: And "Severed Ties" [Severed Ties Yield Severed Heads]

Jason: Yeah, right.

Chris: "A Threnody For Modern Romance" is always fun, people are always really into it.

Punk76: So almost all of them are fun to play, right?

Mike: Yeah, there are only two of them that aren't. No, just one. "Reckless Abandon" is a pain in the ass.

Punk76: Alright, that leads to my next question, your song "Reckless Abandon" is featured on the soundtrack of the movie "Saw 6", is this a movie that you would like to watch in your free time? To you like horror movies?

Chris: I haven't seen the sixth part yet.

Jason: It was really brutal. Like kind of disgusting. People getting shot in the chest with shotguns and I don't know.. but I guess it's good to have a bunch of metal bands on that.

Punk76: You're going to play the "Soundwave Festival" in Australia this year, are you excited?

Chris: Very excited.

Mike: Not at all. (smiling), no just joking of course I'm really excited.

Jason: It's gonna be awesome, we're going to see Faith No More playing live like 5 times.

Punk76: Is it your first time playing the Soundwave Festival?

Jason: Yup, first time in Australia. Every band that we've talked to that has been on Soundwave Festival said that it was one of the best experiences they ever had.

Punk76: if I would give you 100 Euros right now and you'd have to spend them within the next 20 minutes, what would you buy?

Chris: I'd buy the finest rose that I can find in Hamburg and give it to you!

Punk76 (laughing): That was probably the worst answer I've ever heard in my entire life!

Jason: I think I'd go to the Reeperbahn.

Chris: How many Euros?

Punk76: 100

Mike: I'd buy a flashlight. Sex toys. Or a prostitute maybe?

Punk76: But for a hundret Euros?...

Jason: That's probably gonna be really bad.

Chris: In Amsterdam the Standard is 50 Euros.

Jason: Well...

Punk76: Chris, where do you know that from? (smiling)

Chris: One of my friends... (smiling) or I'd buy a gun.

Jason: Yessss!

Chris: A gun and a kevlar vest. And then we could shoot eachother in the kevlar vest, so we wouldn't get hurt. Maybe break some ribs or so.. or I would buy lot's of jelly and to a wrestling match in a little bathtub..

Punk76: Okay, stop it right now! We're doing the next question now. Are you going to play some german Festivals this year?

Jason: Hopefully..

Chris: To my knowledge: no.

Jason: We aren't booked for any until now.

Chris: But we'd like to!

Punk76: There are a lot of good german Festivals.

Jason: Which are the best?

Punk76: The "Hurricane Festival" and the "Rock am Ring/Rock im Park".

Punk76: And the last question: please complete the sentence "if I could be anywhere in the world right now I'd like to be in..."

Chris: In red pyjamas.

Nick: In German Elvis.

Jason: What? You want to be IN German Elvis?

(laughing)

Chris: I'd like to be in.. a beautiful woman.

(laughing even more)

Punk76: Good, I think that's all.

Chris: I think we're the worst band to do an interview with..

Punk76: No it was a lot of fun! Thanks a lot and good luck for the show tonight!
