The Appleseed Cast - Fight Song
Punk76: How long do the band now exists?
Marc: I think since 1997 the band formed in LA. I joined the band in 2000.
Punk76: Can you tell me from what kind of back round do you come. I mean musically?
Marc: I don´t really have much of a family history in music. I got into music and playing when i was 12 or 13 years old. I started out playing bass but in high school and early college i played drums in a few bands.
Punk76: How would you for yourself as band members classify your music?
Marc: We pretty much just call it rock music. There are so many different classifications of music that we just stick to the basic. A lot of people we meet on the road always ask us what kind of music we are. Rock is the easiest way to explain it.
Punk76: And maybe you can tell me some other influences. I talk about bands or singer/songwriters.
Marc: I always pose this kind of questions because the answers can be very surprising. I was a big metal kid growing up. I listen to a lot of Metallica and Pantera in the past. Then in high school I got out of that and into what are now my favourite bands that I listen to all the time. Pavement, Guided By Voices, Afghan Whigs. I love those bands. We all listen to different stuff.
Punk76: Who is responsible for the lyrics in the band or do you write them together.
Marc: Chris writes the lyrics. We don´t write any lyrics together.
Punk76: May you give me more deeper informations about you new record. I mean musically but more important (for me because I’m not only your interviewer, I’m also an fan) lyrically (for me because I’m not only your interviewer, I’m also an fan).
Marc: Well I cant tell you much about the lyrics since I´m not the singer but the whole album is a story. Its a ghost story about a family that´s had a lot of tragedy.
Punk76: Do you have any special habits. I mean clothes or things you do during the show or on tour?
Marc: Not really. We're a pretty simple band. We don´t have any stage outfits. We just like to go on stage every night a put on a good show. We've played with bands before that have their “stage clothes” backstage with them. Then they change into them before they go on and get out of them after the show. We just hang out together backstage or at the bar and joke about shit. I like to be in a laughing mood when we go on stage
Punk76: How do you think did the whole independent rock music change. I mean there was a time, everybody listened to Blink 182, Green Day and then was the time when everybody listened to Jimmy Eat World, Dashboard Confessional or The Get Up Kids and finally the whole hardcore scene grows bigger and bigger. Everybody is into Hawthorne Heights, From Autumn To Ashes etc. What do you think about that kind of trendy phenomens?
Marc: I don´t really listen to any of those newer bands and none of my friends really do either. I used to listen to Jimmy Eat World a lot. The Get Up Kids are great friends of ours since we live in the same town. I don´t really know how to answer that one. I´m a little inexperienced on the new music out right now. I used to work at a record store for 6 years and I knew all about anything that was out. I haven´t worked there for a few years now so I´m lost.
Punk76: In a review on our website you received the highest rate in our evaluation, which means 5 points. What do you think?
Marc: That's awesome. This record is getting a lot of good reviews. It makes us all feel so good about it because this is the hardest and longest we worked on a record before. We all think its the best record we've put out yet.
Punk76: What do you have for aims for the future? Touring? Recording? Girlfriends? Family?
Marc: Well we are touring most of this year. We're in Europe right now and when we get back home we go back out on the West coast in the US. I think we're coming back to Europe in September or October for two more weeks. No recording plans. We've been on the road so much that we haven´t had much time to write anything down. Nate, our new drummer, just got married and Chris just got engaged. We're all pretty happy these days.
