7-seconds Interview with Troy and Bobby :: 27 November 2004, Fun Box Amalie in Essen (Germany), Resistance tour 2004, interviewer: Tobi
Punk76: Please introduce yourselves with name age and function
Troy: Hello my Name is Troy. I’m 41. and I’m the drummer for 7 Seconds.
Bobby: I’m Bobby. I’m 35 and I’m the guitarist.
Punk76: You are so long in music business. For how long now?
Troy: For me in the band it is about 23 years in the band.
Bobby: For me it is about 19 years.
Punk76: Guys that’s a long time in music business.
So what is your motivation to carry on?
Troy: Cause we love what we are doing and we care about what we are doing and we still love to do it. There a lot great things to still go out and do and hopefully reach other people in the movement separation from certain ideals.
Punk76: How is it, travelig all the time and playing in Europe or Asia and at the same time having a family?
Troy: Well it is awesome. It can be tough the times but we can communicate quite a bit with our families at home. Before I was married or had children I was playing and touring so we already had an understanding of each other and we just communicate. The kids know about us as well I just share it with them similar stuff and then we go out and do it and that’s it. We have a passion for it. Continuing it means a lot. We will do it as long as we can as long it is meant for us.
Bobby: Our families are sometimes unhappy when we are on road and we understand that. Sometimes they come out with us, too. I’m not married with kids but the together with our fans we are a big family.
Punk76: Do you earn enough to feed your families?
Troy: No!
Bobby: In the music business? No!
Punk76: What about “staying young” you preach for a very long time? Is it still your aim?
Troy: Yes. Being in your heart and to care and give a fuck about something and hopefully to care about another person who is around you. That is important to us. Staying young until we die.
Bobby: Getting old sucks!
Troy: It is not always easy to be positive 24 hours a day but there is still this felling in our hearts and we care a lot about this thing.
Punk76: Which are your role models. No matter if musician or actor or politician.
Troy: Several people that I believed in interrupted by years. Bobby how about you role models?
Bobby: You Troy!
Punk76: Each other. That’s true. In a way we keep motivating us each other e.g Our families people that I care about who have done positive things.
Bobby: I came in the band right after school as a young kid and actually quit my last year in high school to join the band and these guys raise me and before I got in the band I was a big fan. So they were a kind of my role models and also my best friends and my family. When I don’t think I can keep going anymore these guys helps my out. The band that I am in are definitely my role models.
Punk76: What are your favourite bands tonight?
Bobby: All of them
Troy: We haven’t the chance to listen to the German bands but we like all of them and Sick of it all just kills everybody every night. It is awesome.
Bobby: Yeah great band.
Punk76: Yes. I met Craig in March
Troy: We are on the bus together and we’ve known Craig for a long time as well.
Bobby: Craig has been a friend for years. On my first tour with 7 seconds back in ’86 he was touring with Youth of today we were playing together so he is a good friend.
Punk76: Are you all Straight Edge or even vegetarian or vegan?
Troy: Mixture of everything. Actually yes.
Punk76: But everybody from your band is straight, or not?
Troy: Not exactly.
Bobby: I drink a couple of drinks. I’m not vegetarian.
Troy: Kevin is straight edge.
Punk76: Don’t you think being Straight is a kind of racism/ Intolerance because some people think being straight makes you a better person then someone who is not.
Bobby: Right. If you use it to i…. it is not cool. If you force your believes to anybody else it is not cool
Troy: If don’t like somebody because they are not just like you and you wanna force to be like you.
Bobby: Forcing people to think like you.
I drink and there are some drunk people that I can’t stand...
Troy: In our lyrics our band throws opinions and views out there for one to think about.
Bobby: There are other things too like maybe I should like ideals on people certain drugs. Ive lost a lot of good friends to cocain. I hate that drug and I hate people that do that. I don’t really hate them because they do but I feel sorry for them that they are addicted. I watched my bests friend old brother for instance he ruined his live. He got paranoid still doing it. It is an addictive drug and it is terrible. People who push other people in that should be shot.
Punk76: Thank you for your time and your honest answears.
