I Am Ghost - Those we leave behind

Before Steve Juliano (vocals) decided to found a new band in 2004 he sung in a californian band, called The Silence. The labels never really caught attention to his old band and so he decided to quit and to try out a new music. In the fall 2004 he found I Am Ghost. One year later he recorded together with his new band an EP, shortly fallowed by the Epitaph release "Lovers' Requiem". The release was pretty shape and hard. Steve's new concept of combining hard elements with bitter-sweet-refrains really seemed to work out, because the record gained a lot of attention. In 2008 the sucsessful story continues with their newest album "Those we leave behind". The dark and frightening cover artwork and album title already show in the musical direction of the release: The album is packed full with dark melodies, tragic lyrics and haunting elements. The album awaits you with an haunting intro. A whispering voice and a strange piano open up the CD. The story teller is whispering something about "dancing corpses" and "a place, that only the death know". The intro is fallowed by a super-great Rock track, called "Don´t wake up". Juliano's perfect voice and the stunning refrain make this track to great. Whenever I listen to the album I feel reminded to Story Of The Year's new release The Black Swan [review: here] but I Am Ghost has more Screamo-Elements. I wish they would have reduced the Screamo-parts on their new album, nevertheless the melodies have turned out really fine and somehow the screaming fits them well. The record is full-packed with intensive melodies, aggressive throat, hard-edged guitars, huge basslines and soiling drum work. The most outstanding track is called "Saddest story never told". The track really sounds as if the band Story Of The Year have written it. "Those we leave behind" awaits the listener with 14 brilliant produced Dark-Emo-Rock-Metal songs. Julian said about the record: "We took everything differently this time," says the inimitable frontman Juliano. "We didn't set out to impress anyone this time. We've learned so much from touring for two years straight. We saw the world and realized how important it was to connect with yourself. You need to play music you love. We didn't care what anyone thought of this new record. We loved it and we thought, if we loved it then I'm sure everyone else might dig it. The entire band just let loose". The listener definitely can confirm, that IAG has created indeed a very fine and manifold album.
