Falling Up is an alternative/electronic band from Albany, Oregon.
The band debuted in 2004 and released a stunning masterpiece, called "Crashings".
Four years later the band "broke up". Three members stayed, the rest
of the band left. On myspace I found a quote on this theme: "Anyone who’s
carefully followed Falling Up’s discography will likely note 2008’s
singles collection Discover the Trees Again was simultaneously the end of an era
and the start of an incredibly exciting new chapter". "Fangs" was
released march 24th trough BEC recordings, which is a Toothandnail sublabel. "Fangs"
has become a concept album with twelve mystical and athmospheric songs on, that pretty much focuss on fiction
and fantasy whilst frontman Jessy Ribordy (Vocals, Guitar, Keys) always wrote
about personal feelings and situations on all his other records before. All previous releases concentrate
on personal issues and "Fangs" is different to that. Probably The Dear
Hunter's Casey Crescenzo had a huge influence on him, whom he is sharing his sideproject
"The River Empires" with. Casey, who sings for The Dear Hunter has also
helped out on Forgive Durden's "Razia's Shadow: A Musical". Both projects
are pretty lyrical and fictional. I can image that Casey definately had a big
influence on "Fangs". The most outstanding songs are "Streams Of
Woe At Acheron" and "Goddess Of The Dayspring, I Am". These songs
contain so much energy and beautiness, that I cannot believe how good they are
at all. "Fangs" is pretty different in comparison to the bands debut.
When FU started out their music was pretty much infected by several bands like
Alient Ant Farm, Incubus or Linking Park. "Captiva" (2008) showed a lot of parallels
to Jimmy Eat World. "Fangs" (2009) sounds different again. The band
shrinked from a six-piece to a three piece band, which makes the band sound more
fragile and thoughful. But I love the "new" Falling Up band. Their music
is so impressive and singer Jessy Ribordy has such a beautiful and fragile voice.
Falling Up is still a Rock band, with drums, synthesizer and great driven guitars
- just less Progressive/Hip-Hop Rock attitude, therefore you find wonderful and
wallowing songs, with beautiful effects and great guitar work.
