Fall Of Troy - Manipulator
Equal Vision Records . 05/01/2007 . written by Oliver
The Fall Of Troy has released it´s second full lenght
record on Equal Vision records, called "Manipulator". The first distinctive
feature is the extraordinary cover artwork. It shows a weird and confusing picture
with mnany different beeings on. If you open up the cover there is a helmet to find and with some mythical beeings and diamonds
too. The freaked-out cover artwork speaks for the band, because the Fall Of
Troy is the most hectic and most confusing band that I have ever listened to, beside
Converge and Fear Before The March Of Flames. When "Doppelgaenger"
came out in 2005, I was totally excited by the amazing guitar skills of the
bands´ frontman Thomas Erak, who has also a stunning voice. Doppelgaenger
was already a hectic and flawy record, but the new release is an angry storm,
consisting of brutal melodies, screeching guitars, slamming drums and super
hard basslines. Some people may think, that the Fall Of Troy does only make
loud noises, without any concept behind it. I am not of that opinion. To me
The Fall Of Troy is pure art and a pleasure to listen to. I am not really into
hectic noise-core, but TFOT really has such a huge potential, that it is mindblowing
to listen to their outstanding masterpiece. There are so many breathtaking and
freaked-out passages to find, like slamming guitar solos - or in general Tim´s
abilities on guitar. This band is insane and their songs are so complex and
impressive. In silent moments Tim´s voice shows parallels to Claudio Sanchez
from Cohoeed And Cambria but in the next moment he freaks out like
a mad warlock and screams out his lungs. I can not honor these guitar abilities
enough: Check out "Seattlantis" - a song, that has such impressive
moments when Tim shows what he is able to do with an guitar. I think bands like
Iron Maidon would become jealous, if they would take a listen to this breathtaking
CD. I should also honor the drummer and the bassist, who escort Tim with difficult
insets of their instruments on every moment. The most pleasant song is called
"Caught Up". It just contains the use of an electric guitar. The record
ends with an insane song, called "A man. A plan. A canal. Panama.",
which starts very hectic, but there are some impressive melodic moments to find
as well. Tim shows his full spectrum of his voice again in this tune. He can
sing in two different manners: One is bittersweet. But then he has the other
ability and then he screams like mad. This is not any boring Screamo release.
No, The Fall Of Troy is near at the edge of super-complex-hardcore-metal, that
got interrupted by some lower melodic moments. This record is totally freaked
out! There are so many unbelieveable passages to find, that got infected by
Soul and Jazz music. If you´re really intersted in music, then you should´t
hesitate to buy this stunning record, that shows so many unbelieveable facettes.
