Enter Shikari - Common Dreads
Warner Records . 06/16/2009 . written by Oliver . genre: Emo/ Electro/ Techno/ Post-hardcore . format: CD
Enter Shikari from St. Albans, Hertfordshire are a english british-Post-Hardcore-Pop-Trance-Techno
band. Their unique style is not only hard to describe - but it may has helped
the band a lot to grow. ES is around since 2003 and all members had roots in other
bands. Enter Shikari released their debut "Take This To The Skies" in
2007 trough their very own record label. Noone expected such a strong demand on
the record. It caused so much attention that it reached #4 in the UK album chart
and sold 28,000 copies in its first week. The record sold 250,000 copies worldwide
and it gained gold-status in the UK. "Common Dreads" is the highly anticipated
next work of the band. The record contains 15 really creative and imaginative
tracks, that tend between trance-, core-, punk. I was not a fan of their old record,
that I only gave 1 listen and afterwards I gave it away. Today I bite my ass,
because I heard the record is really good. Therefore I keep this record at home
and I will handle out to noone anymore. "Common Dreads" is not really
compareable to any other bands. But I still remember a lot of shouts and screaming
on the last record. "Common Dreads" does not contain a lot of screaming.
Instead you find Roughton "Rou" Reynolds singing with his normal voice,
and honestly that makes this record real good. I cannot really refer on any other
bands but you may get an better image, when you mix up the fallowing bands: The
Cure, I Set My Friends On Fire, The Kinison, The Secret Handshake, The Blackout,
The Streets and Morrissey. "Common Dreads" is really an interesting
release and I definately like these pretty hard sythesizer Techno/Trance parts,
that go so well with hard edged guitars and massive drums. "Common Dreads"
really makes me speechless and I am impressed how much the songs differ from another.
Their track "Wall" is such a great song with a lot of effects in the
back and a killer refrain. I really like the choir at the end of the song. Really
impressive and overwhealming music! I cannot really find any bad tracks on the
record, except "Zzzonked", which is a drum-and-bass asskick song, that
is on one hand fun to listen to but pretty exhausting on the other hand. I guess
kids will like it anyway. Check out this diversified record, which is just...
breathtaking!
