The "Screamo" or "Post Hardcore" is a fading genre, so what makes Emery still so present and interesting? The answear is as good as simple: The secret about Emery are the singers; and the group has three! Frontman Toby Morell is doing the main vocals and he plays guitar, Devin Shelton is doing the co-vocals and I swear to God, he almost has the same voice like Toby has. And both singers really have very extraordinary and beautiful voices. Josh Head is doing the (very strong) shouts and he plays keyboard. Christian post hardcore pioneers Emery are awaiting the listener with 41:02 minutes of pure energy. I cannot say it often enough but Emery won't never be able to challenge their awesome debut "The Weaks End" (Toothandnail, 2004), nevertheless the band is back with their strongest and most aggressive material ever. The record kicks off with a tune called "Cuthroat Collapse". This brutal song contains such heavy screaming parts that it makes me really speechless. After 48 sec. of playtime Toby and Devin sing duett-vocals, fallowed directly by Josh's heavy screaming. The dual and threetone vocals are really impressive. Toby and Devin have such fragile and wonderful voices that correlate so well with Josh's heavy shouts. Emery once again has recorded a flawless and impressive record with several really impressive songs on, like "Butcher's Mouth", which has such heavy guitars in the back and which has an impressive synthesizer part, that sounds so 80's and really dark (the part starts after 2:00 min of time and reminds me to bands like Depeche Mode, David Bowie and White Lies). The most outstanding track is called "Piggy Back Lies", which starts of with heavy shoutings shortly fallowed by a powerful refrain. This tune sounds so danceable and hardcore twice. The record is dedicated to fans of Refused, The Hives and Underoath.
