Denver Harbor - Scenic
Universal Records . 10/12/2004 . written by Oliver . genre: Pop Punk
Fenix-Tx is history. Denver Harbor is the future? Will Salazar, formerly known as singer and frontman in Fenix-Tx, is back after a long break from punkrock business. He found a new band with the help of Chris Lewis, who played in Fenix-Tx as well. I renember when I heard their old band Operation Phenix, that named themselves later Fenix-Tx after law issues. That band was so perfect. They released their awesome debut on DriveThru/Geffen back in 1999. The record contained pure melodic skatepunk with killer hooks, amazing melodies and great back-up-vocals.. Afterwards they changed the band constillation and suddenly they sounded totally different. Fenix-TX suddenly has become more Rock influenced, more matured band. Today Will S. is back with a new band on Universal music. You can feel his south-american soul on that release- I promise! Check out the guitars and several passages, which might create the impression of a spanish Viestá. Scenic contains many good songs and in my opinion there is not a drastic change to their foregoer release “Lechuza”, which was also a good but not brilliant release. Denvor Harbor contains pro and cons: I like Will´s impressive voice and the great drum style but I dislike this Rock album at least, which takes away my view of a Skatepunk band. Honestly "Scenic" has turned out ok, but nevertheless Will is not able any more to challenge his great release with his ex-band Fenix-Tx from 1999.
