Dead Poetic - Vices

Toothandnail/ Century Media Records . 10/31/2006 . written by Oliver . genre: Emo/ Rock/ Accoustic

Dead PoeticDead Poetic is a Rock band from Dayton, Ohio that has changed their style very much. The band is not that brilliant Emo-Screamo band, that everyone loved so much. "Vices" is not compareable to the foregoer release "New Medicines", that came out in 2004. The new album has turned out more darker and more mature and it has taken me weeks to accept the record. I still like Brandon Rike´s voice so much, which can be so fragile on one hand and so damn strong in the next. "Vices" reminds me a lot to Incubus, Deftones and Hopesfall. Screamo is a genre that is faded out. I once read an interview with the band, saying that they felt a lot better, when they recorded "Vices". They admit, that this is the kind of sound they ever wanted to record. To be honest - and I guess I feel like a lot of poeple do - the new record has not turned out good. The melodies are pretty boring in my opinion and I can figure out only two songs, that I pay attention to. One is called "Paralytic". I like the detuned guitars and the well componed chorus on that track. Brandon´s voice is filling out that track so perfectly. Noone else could sing that song in any better way. The rest of the record sounds like a unprofessional copy of the listed bands above. There is no screaming to find on that record any more. Therefore you find relaxed and smooth lyrics - which have turned out pretty boring in my opinion.
