Days Away - Mapping an invisible world
Fueled By Ramen Records . 05/10/2005 . written by Oliver . genre: Pop/ Experimental/ Rock/ Emo
You recognize a good band right from the first second on. I put the new Days Away CD in my player and I was completely amazed by that wonderful voice, those powerful drums, those nice melodies and the overwhelming harmonies. The CD starts with an midtempo song, which is called “God and Mars”. This song forces you into you knees: It makes you move, it creates a very good atmosphere and it is powerful - and beautiful - at least. I only knew one single song from the band before, which is called “Ideas”. This song strongly reminds me to Circa Survive and Jimmy Eat World, just underlined by more younger and fresher vocals. In general I would describe Days Away as Pop Punk/ Experimental band, with lusty drum work and breathtaking melodies. The band consists of five people at all and the guys add a lot of instruments. So you find for example piano, accoustic guitar or samples. I love that band really very much, but unfortunately most of their songs are very slowly. I like their mid-tempo songs better, but even their slow songs are very nice and good. The eigth song is called “The Fight” and it is really something special. The whole song is really slow, but the chorus is so driving and full of good mood. Yeah, let me shake my body to this. If you need a comparison to any other bands, I would say the voice shows some huge parallels to Antony Green from Circa Survive/ Saosin and the drum work strongly reminds me to Yellowsecond (Floodgate records). I even can figure out some small parallels to Further Seems Forever, Mae and Elliott (Revelation records). Just go ahead and try them out, if you are into the listed bands.
