Dashboard Confessional - The shade of poison tree
Vagrant Records . release date: 10-02-07 . written by Oliver
I really love all the classic DC releases, like "The Places You Have Come To Fear The Most" or the "So Impossible" EP. When "Dusk and Summer" came out on Universal, my interest in DC leveled off. I was not into that boring CD, that did not even contained so many good songs - except "Stolen", that got re-recorded in 2007 with the german band Juli from Giessen. Now in 2007 Chris Carrabba, who once sung in Further Seems Forever/The Vacant Andys, has recorded a new album with his band. The title is called "The Shade Of Poison Trees" and finally the songs have become better again. To me, Chris won´t never be able to challenge his old album "The Places You Have Come..". I like his old style really more, when he was playing silent accoustic tunes. Dashboard Confessional is a real band now, with five full time musicians. Chris still assembles a few accoustic tunes, like "Keep Watch For The Mines" (3) or "Little Bombs" (8). But they did not turned out as good in comparison to the old stuff. Since the last record, Chris dares to play sad and depressive songs again on "The Shade Of Poison Trees". A good example for real emotion and depression is "The Shade Of Poison Trees" - the title song - which is song number six. Soft tunes got accompany´d by piano - just like in the old days. The very best songs on the new record are "Thick As Thieves" - a driving Rock tune, and "The Window´s Peak", which is a depressive ballard. I like the new record on one hand, but I have to admit, that I really love the old releases way more.
