Cute Is What We Aim For - Rotation
Fueled By Ramen/Warner Records . 08/14/07 . written by Oliver
Cute
Is What We Aim For is a Pop Rock band from Buffalo, New York,
formed in 2005. On Wickipedia I found, that "Cute" orginated from
a phone call, when Jeff Czum called his friend Fred. "Cute"
became his trademark expression for "Cool", explains the writer on
Wickipedia. Nice story, I´ll guess. However, I am glad to present
you the new CIWWAF record, which has turned out so good, that I almost
can´t believe it. Let me mention this first: If you like the Epitaph
band The Higher, go mix them up with the very best songs from The
Starting Line and overflow the mixture with a small Punk attitude,
just like you find in All Time Low - then you have Cute Is What We
Aim For. The new record came out on Fueled By Ramen/ Warner records
on June 24th 2008. The record contains twelve impressive Pop-Rock tunes,
pretty much affected by the listed bands. The record starts off with
a killer song, called "Practice makes perfect". I feel so very reminded
to The Starting Line´s newest release "Direction". The message in
this song is pretty good, because it talks about making mistakes and learning
from those mistakes: "Practice makes perfect... I have done a few
things I regret". The chorus and the melodie have turned out so great.
The next song is called Doctor - a slamming midtempo song with a killer
refrain. Play the song fast forward to those passages: 1.22 and 1.52
(min). I totally love the Latino-style, while the drums and the trumpets
in the back really create a fantastic atmosphere. "Navigate Me" is
the next great song, with a real cool line in it to find. Shaant Timothy
Hacikyan has such a wonderful voice and a sweet message for the girls
out there. He sings about sexual experience with a girl. The line
goes: "Navigate me trough your body... I love the way, you talk on
top of me". That´s really a cool line, I think. The whole record consists
of perfect songs. "Do What You Do" really sounds like a Starting Line
copy, but I am fine with it, because I love the Starting Line. One
of the most outstanding songs on the new album to find is called "Hollywood"
- a supermelodic tune with trumpet and synthesizer in the back. By
the way: John Feldman of Goldfinger has produced that slamming masterpiece,
that you really need to listen to. The band caused a lot of attention
in 2006 with their Billboard 200-charting debut album "The same old
blood rush". The record was already good, but the new release is a
masterpiece with amazing melodies on and great lyrics to find. To
me CIWWAF has recorded the very best Pop-Punk record in 2008.
