Cry Of The Afflicted - Unveiling

I read a few pretty bad reviews about Cry Of The Afflicted on the internet. I found the fallowing quote, written by David Stagg of HM Magazine, that I cannot really understand. He wrote: "This five-piece from Canada have pulled together a pretty dense record. Delay is all over the guitars on the record, and lot of the riffs seem to be picked from the same tree." Let me interrupt this mess and tell you something: I am 32 years old and not really into Screamo any more. I am sick of the flood of Screamo bands, that appear daily. In my opinion this genre is pretty much faded out. There are only a few good Screamo bands around. But I definitely have to rebel against Stagg´s words. The Canadian band from Kelowna, British Columbia has released a well composed screamo/ emo/ metal record with surprising and catchy melodies, detuned guitars, killer hard riffs, basslines and drums. I definitely know what I am talking about: I receive so much music weekly - especially a lot of Screamo music - but it happens not quite often, that a band is catching my attention so much like COTA has done. The singers in Cry Of The Afflicted have pretty young - but fantastic and crystal clear - voices. The opinions about Cry Of The Afflicted differ very much. I found a lot of negative words about them on the net, although I really cannot understand it at all. Believe me: If you appreciate Dead Poetic´s release "New Medicine", A Thorn For Every Heart, Saosin´s latest record and Underoath´s (greatest) release "They´re only chasing safety", then you definitely love Cry Of The Afflicted. "The Unveiling" is the bands debut record on Solidstate/Toothandnail. I definitely have to admit, that "The Unveiling" contains a lot of depressive and frustrating songwriting, but I am really fine with that. I cannot imagine a Emo/Screamo band singing about a kiddies birthday. I like the black and haunting image on "The Unveiling". To me Cry Of The Afflicted have released a flawless record with outstanding melodies on. Sureley dedicated to fans of Underoath, Dead Poetic, A Thorn For Every Heart and Atreyu.
