City And Colour Bring me your love

Vagrant Records . release date 02/12/08 . review written by Oliver

City And ColourIn 2005, Dallas Green (known as the dulcet voice of Alexisonfire), has released his debut album “Sometimes,” on Canadian label Dine Alone Records. His new acoustic act (solo with guitar) is called “City and Colour.” Fans all over the world showed a strong interest in the record. The most impressive song was called, “Save Your Scissors“; the song is reminiscent of some early day Dashboard Confessional tunes. 2008 brought the release of “Bring me your love” on Vagrant/Dine Alone records. The record contains twelve acoustic tracks, some tracks lasting 5-6 minutes. Most often Dallas sings alone, accompanied by the soft tunes of his acoustic guitar. I was not thrilled by the record, when listening to it for the first time. Unfortunately, Dallas left the silent emotional path, shown on “Sometimes”. The songs are much rawer and more insistent on “Bring Me Your Love”. The whole record shows strong parallels to Chuck Ragan (Hot Water Music). On the whole, the album is pure, silent and raw. But the more I listen to the record, the more I like it. Indeed the record even shows a lot of parallels to Nikola Sarcervic (frontman in Millencolin), who has released two purist solo releases. His releases seemed affected by sounds akin to Neal Diamond or The Red House Painters – and in general by music from the 50´s and 60´s. On “Bring me your love” Dallas probably was affected by tunes from the past as well. Some of them sound like a country music ballad, others show a strong Pop music effort, just like “Waiting”, which is song number seven on the track list. Dallas has had some help from his friends on the album - so you’ll find them singing along or playing additional instruments. I liked the use of a slide guitar in his song "Constant Knot" (track number eight on the album). I feel that the record has strong potential; I like the soft and honest atmosphere on “Bring me your love”. Dallas has an amazing voice which fits so well into his songs that most often deal with the theme of love.
