Circa Survive On letting go
Equal Vision Records . 2007
Equal Vision records is a guarantee for great bands and so they signed Circa Survive in 2006, whose singer, Anthony Green, sang in Saosin before. I was stocked when I heard, that Anthony sang in Saosin, because that band really impressed me a lot. But lets concentrate on Circa: Their music is really special and very hard to describe. The best term for that music could be Progressive Rock. Circa even reminds me a lot to Coheed And Cambria, because Anthony´s voice shows a lot of parallels to Claudio Sanchéz soft and fragile voice. Circa Survive has a lot of interesting facts, that I would like to mention here. At first I would like to mention the great cover artwork, that shows a figure with a burning head, that is hanging under a pink ballon. I read a lot of different opinions about their 2nd album. Some people dislike the sad and haunting atmosphere, that is coming from that record. I have another opinion on that: I like those strange and haunting songs, that sound so far away and so unreal. Anthony´s soft and fragile voice is so pleasant and innocuous. The moony - but strange - record spreads a real weird atmosphere. This is not the right music, to hang out with your friends/ or boy-girlfriend to. Circa Survive is pretty depressive and sad on one hand, but on the other hand there stands Anthony with his soft and infantile voice. I am totally into that record, that I listened so often to now. The record contains twelve wonderful tracks and most of the songs take about 3-4 minutes. You really need to pay attention to the drummer. This guy is really awesome - even unbelieveable, how good he is. I really like everything about Circa Survive: The astonishing artwork (open up the cover and experience the work on your own), the perfect and hectic drum style, the glittering guitars and those huge basslines. At least I would like to mention the poetic - or better weird and surreal lyrics. Let me show you some quotations: "All I wanted to be was one of your children. See how clean the water is where you are, wash off your handcuffs" (quote from On Letting Go), "What God takes away, let´s refill all your holes with mud..." (quote taken from (Kicking your crosses down). You may recognize, that Anthony is not writing about politics or stupid love songs. Circa Survive is really an interesting and exciting experience. I assume, that the media will show a lot of attention to the band in the future. Their second release on Equal Vision records shows, that Anthony and his mates have enough power and potential to kick some stupid idiot bands from their throne.
