Chiodos - Bone Pallace Ballet

In 2007 Chiodos presents it´s second full lenght release with the title of "Bone Pallace Ballet" on Equal Vision records. The New York Times (!) mentioned the band and distinguished their singer as Rock Star. I was really curious to find out, what Chiodos sounds like. But I was not really overjoyed, when I listened to the bands full lenght, because I found to many parallels to the latest We Are The Fury and My Chemical Romance releases, which are not really my thing any more. Somehow I am getting sick about those glamour Rock bands. And well, Chiodos plays a kind of Glamour Rock, pretty dark sometimes, then suddenly interrupted by hard guitar attacts and piano passages. The whole recording sounds very haunting and frightening. Craigery Owens (vocals) fragile voice dominates on the whole record. But sometimes he even screams in a very hard and aggressive way. I honestly have to admit, that Chiodos is better then MCR, WeAreTheFury, Foxy Shazam and tons of other ways from that genre, because the band shows more diversity and creativity in my opinion. Just to let you know, what I mean with creativity, I have to mention, that the band use many different instruments, like violin, piano, trombone, horn and more. This makes it clearly, that these ten tracks on "Bone Pallace Ballet" are very appealing and variable. I guess, the reason why I like that record is, that Craigery Owens voice often reminds me on Antony Green from Circa Survive. I really love CS very much and track 4, which is called "A letter from Janelle" totally sounds like a Circa Survive track. My statement about Chiodos is pretty good: The band has recorded a Glamour Rock album with haunting vocals, strange effects and tons of diverted instruments in it. I like it a lot, but honestly Chiodos won´t become my favourite band.
