Burn The 8 Track is a melodic Rock band from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Kanada. Their new album is called “The Great Divide” and it appears trough Universal/Curve records. Singer Derek Kun has a fantastic voice. His brother Jason Kun also sings and has a great voice as well. He totally reminds me to Ray Cappo from Shelter/Youth Of Today. BurnThe8Track is a very melodic band, that is not afraid to sing about political themes, like enviroment and unfairness. Their music is really pretty powerful but highly melodic. One of the most outstanding tracks is called “Intelligence Lost”. The track is based on superstrong basslines, surrounded by hard edged guitars and powerful drum work. To me the title track “Fear Of Falling Skies” is the very best one on the record: Those swirling drums that got fallowed by screaching guitars and powerful basswork are just mindblowing. The melody on that track is so awesome - just great! I also like the fact, that the is so silent on one hand but so powerful on the other hand. To me BurnThe8Track is the perfect soundtrack for some great snowboard- and skate videos. Their music even reminds me a lot to Volcom Entertainment bands alike Bueno and All Autonomy. But there also some other influences to find: I already mentioned that Derek reminds me to Ray Cappo from Shelter but I also feel reminded to Propagandhi – just compare the guitar work on “Equilibrium” and tell me I´m right. Also check the basslines on that sound. Don’t that one reminds you Ignite´s classic release “Family”? I can also figure out a little influence from Better Than A Thausand (Revelation) and Smoke Or Fire (Fat). To me it is important to mention, that BurnThe8Track is concentrating on todays society problems.
