Boy Sets Fire . The Misery Index: Notes from the plague years

Burning Heart Records . release date: 03/16/2006 . written by Oliver

Boy Sets FireLos Angeles´ Bleed The Dream is a band from the kind of emotional Rock genre, that many critiques describe as progressive Rock. The band has gained a lot of fans worldwide, especially after they contributed different songs to the TasteOfChaos compilations, which are pretty popular worldwide. Bleed The Dream sounds very theatric and very melancholic, when you listen to them. I´ll guess the opener song makes this pretty clear. The second song shows the singers whole talent. His voice is so emotional and fragil but strong on the other hand too. The way he sings the vocals pretty much reminds me to Gerard Way from My Chemical Romance. But please don´t think, that BTD sounds like a cheep copy of MCR; no - they pretty much have their very own style. The quartet combines a lot of energy and emotion. The result is just amazing and so you find super-amazing melodies, underlined by strong drums and screeching guitars. Their very best song is called "Vampires (Don't Kill For The Money)". This special tune totally reminds me to The Used. Whenever I listen to other songs and passages on the record I feel reminded to a lot of different things. So I can show parallels to David Bowie and Avenged Sevenfold. Sounds strange? Indeed, it is, but the result is more than impressive. The record definitely won´t talk to everyone, who like Emo/Screamo/Post HC/ Progressive Rock. You have to be pretty open minded for that record, because the dark elements really overwhelm here. This is not the very best record, that I have heard from that genre but it is an very interesting project. You really should buy the record, if you´re into Avenged, The Used, We Are The Fury and MyChemRom.
