Autopilot Off started their career in 1999 on Fastmusic Records - the home of Agent Felix and other good bands. Auto once called themselves "Cooter" in the beginning. But shorty after they gained some sucsess with the band, serious trouble began, as a lawyer wanted to sue them because of another band, who called themselfes "Cooter" too. Cooter changed it´s name to Autopilot and got signed to Fueled By Ramen records then. The band released a great EP with Punkrock heroes Slick Shoes. Every band contributed three songs to the CD. In 2004 Autopilot signed with Island/Universal records and the luck began. Auto released one of the very best records from the Poppunk/Skatepunk genre until today. Tim Armstrong (frontman in Rancid) was so amazed about the band, that he asked them to write a song for them. He actually wrote “What I want” for the band and sung on “Blind Truth”. I am really into Tim´s voice but I am astonished, that a singer from a streetpunk band has helped out a Skatepunk band. Anyway. Auto was known for playing fast music, pretty much in the vein of Whippersnapper. “Make a sound” has leveled down. The songs are often kept in a midtempo manner. You may think, that the band has lost their power, by slowing down the songs, but I can promise you, that their songs still contain a huge ammount of power and drive. The bands greatest song is called "Clockwork". You may know that song, from their earlier recordings. APO re-recorded it again and contributed the song to the SSX3 snowboard soundtrack. The band even dares to deal with the theme of September 11th. On "The 12th day" they honestly reflect their feelings about that horrible tragedy. You shouldn´t hesitate to buy the record, if you´re into Rufio, The Starting Line, New Found Glory and Face 2 Face.
