Atreyu - A Death Grip On Yesterday

Atreyu belongs to the most brutal bands, that I know of. The band consists of two singers: Alex Varkatzas [shouts] and Brandon Saller [drums and clean vocals] who kick ass directly from the first until the last second. "A death grip on yesterday" is the long expected release, after their enormous sucsess release "The curse". The band really has taken all their experiences they made as musicians on tour in this record. This means: They have become much more professional, even much more agressive and they have become better musicians. "A Death Grip On Yesterday" contains ten breathtaking songs - most of those songs take about three minutes of time. The fifth song is called "The Theft" and it is to an expectation on this record, because it is a bright Pop-song that reminds the listener to the band American Eyes (Sideonedummy Records). In "Ex´s and Oh´s" you find a breathtaking guitar-solo part, which stongly reminds me to Iron Maiden. I often recognize a dark and haunting atmosphere, whenever I listen to the record. Crystal clear guitars collide with throbbing basslines, ultra-agressive-throat and enormly strong drum work. It is not adequate enough to call this kind of music "Metalcore". "A death grip on yesterday" is pure art, with well-crafted melodies and super-impressive-agressiveness. To me it seems, that the band has taken over styles from Avenged Sevenfold, American Eyes and Iron Maiden. This release is so impressive and it is so good. By the way, it is one of the hardest releases, that I own. Alex´voice often prevails on this record, but whenever Brandon is singing, the atmosphere gets brighter. The singers voice are often guided by synthezisers, which creates a pretty strange and haunting atmosphere. Atreyu will become a top act on Victory records and I think this record will make them famous all over the US and in foreign countries.
