Anti Flag - The bright lights of America

RCA/Sony . release date: 03-28-07 . written by Oliver

Anti FlagPittsburgh´s Anti Flag released their second major label album for RCA/Sony records. The record contains twelve slamming Rock songs, pretty much in the vein of the foregoer records. Justin Sane (voals) and his mates deliver once again a raw Rock/Street Punk record, with overwhelming melodies and intelligent lyrics about politics, childabuse and equality on. I am pretty happy, that Anti Flag did not changed their route, since they left Fat a few years ago. The sympathic band has kept it´s ideas by and they still fight for the same goals, just like they did back in the years on Fat. It seems, as if their credibility has not meet with a loss under their apperance on RCA records and so you can expect another astonishing masterpiece. The record got recorded in Kentucky under the help of mastermind Tony Visconti, who produced artists such as David Bowie, T-Rex, Morrisey and even U2. Bassist Chris #2 states, that the band wished to walk girtty, new ways and so they choose Tony Visconti instead of Steven Egerton (Decendents/All). The new support is clearly to figure out on the new record: So you can hear childchoirs and tons of new instruments, like turbular bells, violin, back-up vocals, kettledrums, Glockenspiel and more. I really love the overwhelming and strong result, that the band is going to present on their new record. The songs still sound very raw altough there are so many instruments to find out in the back. Let´s figure on some songs: Track #4 is called “If you wanna steal”. The song contains an amazing energy and a breathtaking refrain. Take a careful listen to the drumming and guitars on this track--could it be an homage to classic Cure? The next outstanding track is “Spit in the face,” a tune so strong, fast and furious. I was impressed with the decision from a major label to release such a super-fast Punkrock tune; it seems as if Anti Flag has free reign to record their own ideas, unbound by restrictions from their label. This new album is fierce; the songs and refrains are breathtakingly impressive. In my opinion, this album is clearly groundbreaking, pushing boundaries in the modern punk rock scene.
