Alive In Wild Paint - Ceilings
Equal Vision Records . 2007 . written by Oliver
I was laughing as I read a review about Alive In Wild Paint
on Amazon: "Musicman44" (an Amazon user) wrote, that Travis Bryant´s
voice is so soothing, that it could be used for a real therapy. Funny, but I´ll
guess that´s true. Travis, was also lead singing on Terminal´s
debut CD "How The Lonely Keep" (Toothandnail 2005) and on Goodbye
Tomorrow (Equal Vision 2007). I clearly renember how stocked I was, when
I was listening for the very first time to the listed bands. But when Alive
got released I was pretty sceptic. The album was too soft, too fragile and even
too sensitive at first. But then I listened over and over to it again and suddenly
I started to respect and honor the new songs. Now I am totally in love with
the new release and I started to findd out about all those beautiful and profound
songs. The opener "Ceilings" is a soft tune, overlayed by soft drums,
accoustic guitar, strings, electric guitar and piano. The next track is called
"Crystal Selves". Piano and organ have taken over a dominating function
on this track, while Travis is attended by soft drums. "Crystal Selves"
has such an beautiful refrain, that it is hard to fight back tears. Mark Trombino,
who is known for recording JimmyEatWorld´s "Clarity" has produced
this record. The recording quality is so well and crystal clear. Alive have
recorded a lulling and silent record, which differs a lot from Travis previous
releases. The tracks have enough power, without having a hard edged guitars
in the front. I can think of fans of The Get Up Kids, Copeland, Elliott and A Dream Too
Late can become very fast friends with this release. To sum up the record, I have to state, that AIWP is not really a Rock record. Instead you find beautiful and dreamily tunes.
