Against All Authority - Common Rider split
Hopeless Records . 2005
Wow, I am still a Against All Authority fan. I found out about the band back in '95. I was so stoked. Against All Authority was much more Ska influenced back in those days. They still are a band with Ska roots, but on you won´t find any Ska on this grungy split EP with Common Raider. I remember Common Raider being on a Lookout Records compilation. So I was interested how these guys got their sound, and yes, CR kept their high standard that I knew from their song. So you know, I am equally stoked by Common Rider. They head off with a smooth Latino-Ska song, that should make you sing a-long. Common Rider continue with another smooth Ska song- which is- once again- motivating me to sing. I am not a huge Ska fan anymore, but this band is good, I promise that! Their next song, “Blue Spark,” is more ock´n´roll based, which is a soft tune with rocking guitars in the back. This sounds like one of those country-truck-stop songs. Hah! CR continues with some harder riffs, smooth voice and great melodies. Yes, I think I like this band. Once again they offer a nice refrain and fresh guitars. Hm, what about Against All Authority? I saw them live a few years ago and I still like them. This time they left away their Ska base and play pure and dirty straight faced rock. Yeah, AAA has not lost it´s power and style. They are still a three piece band with much energy and skills. I like this EP as a good alternation to all that hardcore and emo.
