Able Baker Fox - Voices

Artic Rodeo Recordings . release date: 08-15-08 . written by Oliver

Billy TalentArtic Rodeo Recordings from Germany is a young indie label run by two guys. Both decided to pack a new band on their roster, who are called Able Baker Fox - a band that some people might even call All-Star-Band. Able Baker Fox was born, when Nathan Ellis, Mike Reed, Ben Reed and Jeff Gensterblum quitt their old bands (Small Brown Bike/ The Casket Lottery) and decided to found something new. On the band´s somophore album you find eleven slamming tracks, consisting of slamming drums, a charismatic singers voice, hooked laden guitars and huge basslines. The lyrics are pretty serious and even poetic sometimes. Able Baker Fox´s music is kept very slow on one hand, but very powerful on the other hand. Sometimes I feel reminded to Fugazi, Snapcase and Hot Water Music, especially when I listen to "What doesn´t kill you", which is a slow and powerful tune, kept totally in the vein of Fugazi. The special aspect about Able Baker Fox is their talent to create a very silent and friendly atmosphere, which explodes in the next second. To me Able Baker Fox has created a solid album with stunning Rock tracks on. Nathan Ellis, who sang in Small Brown Bike (Dr. Strange rec.) before, has a very good and outstanding voice. You may like the record a lot, if you´re a fan of Hot Water Music, Attack In Black, Fugazi and Snapcase. To me this record is dedicated to the old hardcore kids, that have become fathers and mothers today.
