A Wilhelm Scream - self titled EP

New Bedford’s, now Massachusetts-based A Wilhelm Scream is back with new music. They released a brandnew self-titled EP trough Paper And Plastic Records. The band, who started out on Jump Start Records in 2002, has made a successful career so far. They were signed with Nitro Records in the past and they recently signed with Vinnie Fiorello’s Paper and Plastic Records (Vinnie is playing drums for Less Than Jake). The band cause(d) a lot of attention: They shared stages with Pennywise, Lagwagon, Anti-Flag or Rise Against. Their music recently got distributed by Hurley Music and they have a couple of international labels, like Asscard Records in Germany or Shock in Australia, who help them to promote their music. I honestly need to admit, that I am not a big AWS fan, because in my opinion their music – even every song – sounds the same: it is just fast melodic hardcore punk, with no highlights or great refrains in it to find. The new EP contains 5 songs and it takes 17:02 of total time. There is not a lot to mention here: The concept is clear, the music is fast, the melodies are lame. I really cannot explain their monster-success. They have a huge Myspace site with a killer design, they play international shows in the US, Europe and Australia and they have great sponsors like Hurley and Rock Star Energy Drink. So probably I don’t have the right access to AWS, but I can only repeat myself: I think their melodies all sound the same; the only play very fast music with massive guitar riffs and strong basslines, but I can’t become friends with their music.
